I am not too updatey

This year I am taking the LOM class as an alumni. Unfortunately my Mac broke so I spend a lot of time on the computers at school. There, I need to use earbuds to listen to the class information. Until right now, I have hated to use earbuds bc they fall out of my ears and I have to cram them in there. I just received a set of adaptors I bought on ebay.. now my earbuds are missing! These are the things I deal with.

What I really want, of course, is to replace my computer. I find spending too much time in LOM raises that beast within me. I think about getting a Mac with enough HD memory to store all my pictures and being able to get them off the external HD where I now store them, and being able to organize them and connect to Shutterfly and do all the other cool things people with expensive computers can do. (I will not buy a PC -- my external HD is Mac formatted anyway) So I do not spend time in the LOM classroom this year, and I don't listen to the slideshows and all that.

LOM also makes me want to scrapbook but I also use my computer to scrapbook, to do the journaling and create titles. I am not inspired to handwrite stuff usually.

So I am not really embracing the whole LOM thing this year as much. But I do enjoy the emails and I do read the transcripts and all that.

In other news I have a new job and I am doing reference at an academic library. I really like it. I like showing people how to use WorldCat.org to find a book we might not have a local public library, I like getting up and going into the stacks to find books for people, I like doing basic instruction in electronic databases. Sometimes our boss quizzes us and sends us reference questions he has received that are a bit more challenging than what we deal with, and asks us what we would use or how we would do it. The last question was:

I need to find out something abotu Central America and the GDP.

Well I did not know what a GDP was and while I know where Central America is I could not name you more than a few countries in that region. However I spent some time with the CIA's Fact Book online and now I am good with that.

I am taking a class in Internet Fundamentals (a prereq) and we are workign with basic markup at the moment. I just have to design a website on a topic of my choosing. I have decided to create a site on my LOM system, what I use and how it's organized. I need to take more pictures of things like my Category Drawers and my Storage Binders to use for that. I am waiting for winter to end and the light to get better to shoot those.

I am not sure if I will share the site online anywhere. I only have to present it to my class. I am also concerned with violations of Stacy's copyright. Last year she said we could blog or post about it all we wanted, especially since the basic information is in the book, which anyone can buy or read. So I think it would be ok, but I am not sure I want to buy a domain for just this.

Last night I went to the Lakeshore Theater in Lakeview (Chciago neighborhood) to see

INTERGALACTIC SEX RODEO!

by comedy troupe Big Dog Eat Child. Until I looked up the link I had no idea they were responsible for such comedy gems as Jones' BIG ASS Truck Rental and Storage!

I love all the Jones BIG ASS commercials on youtube!

The show was frenetic with random stripping that had nothing to do with the story line (boobs always bring in the crowds) and a series of comedy sketches that varied from puzzling to pee your pants funny. It was worth the tenner to see it, and I think it is important and worthwhile to support local theater, local comedy (Chicago is the home of Second City and the origins of many famous comedy stars), and the efforts of all sorts of creative people.

After the show we spent a lovely time in the early morning hours at the Melrose Diner, which was one of the many places I used to go to late night victuals after a hot night dancing at some club.

Of course this time the kid at the door of the theater had called me Ma'am. AND THEN HE CARDED ME.

To which I said, "Dood. You just called me Ma'am. And now you are carding me. Do you not see the irony???"

Ok back to my homework, here.
